Dallas to host Hispanic mental health conference

Cannenta Foundation will offer interactive sessions, community building opportunities focused on hurdling language and financial barriers.

Dallas will host the Cannenta Foundation’s Hispanic Mental Health Conference this month, highlighting unique needs and solutions for mental health challenges within the Hispanic community.

The Cannenta Foundation will hold its annual conference Sept. 13-14 at Dallas College Mountain View Campus.

The gathering aims to connect mental health professionals and community leaders, fostering discussions on the latest developments and services tailored to Hispanic communities.

“This conference is a unique opportunity to highlight the incredible contributions of Hispanic mental health professionals and to foster a sense of empowerment among attendees,” said Leti Cavazos, founder of the Cannenta Foundation. “We are committed to providing an enriching experience that not only informs but also inspires.”

The event will include a diverse lineup of speakers, interactive breakout series, networking opportunities and agency exhibits. Postdiscussion book signings are hosted by each speaker, for either health professionals , community leaders or advocates for mental well-being.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Julissa Arce Raya, Mexican American author, speaker, immigration rights advocate and co-founder of the Ascend Educational Fund.

The Cannenta Foundation’s mission targets financial and language barriers, striving for care within underserved communities.

Data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration indicates that 22% of Hispanics and Latinos face mental health challenges, with 5% experiencing severe conditions. Yet, only 36% of this population receives mental health services compared to their white counterparts at 52%.
