Why the fountain at Klyde Warren Park is not working

The Ginsburg Family Great Lawn is also closed for restoration.

Klyde Warren Park’s iconic Nancy Best Fountain is currently closed for construction.

The fountain has been closed since Sept. 10 for testing and maintenance, said Kit Sawers, president and CEO of Klyde Warren Park, via email.

“Due to its complex design, this maintenance can take some time to complete. We look forward to reopening the fountain soon for everyone to enjoy in a matter of weeks,” Sawers said.

The $10 million Nancy Best Fountain, in the heart of Dallas downtown, is an interactive play area for families. It features a 5,000-square-foot splash pad that can accommodate hundreds of children at a time and a design inspired by the park itself, featuring three 15-foot stainless steel trees, 14 rosebud-shaped bubblers, and 106 small nozzles simulating leaves, The Dallas Morning News reported when the park opened in 2022.

In the nighttime, the fountain comes alive with dancing water and a choreographed light and music show. Performances after sunset are illuminated. People are allowed to play in the water.

Nancy Best, a longtime Klyde Warren Park board member, and her husband, Randy, funded the fountain. It was one of three projects funded by private donors celebrating Klyde Warren Park’s 10th anniversary. A dog park, called “My Best Friend’s Park,” opened earlier in 2022 and a 6,000-square-foot addition was added to the Sheila and Jody Grant Children’s Park, The News reported.
