North Texas nonprofits to give free food, including turkeys, and meals for Thanksgiving

Organizations providing assistance to those in need so they can celebrate the holidays too.

Numerous charities and organizations in North Texas are offering free food and turkeys, and hosting Thanksgiving meals to support families in need.

Below is a list of locations distributing free food, turkeys and other Thanksgiving essentials this season.

H-E-B Feast of Sharing Returns to Dallas

The Feast of Sharing Dallas, by H-E-B is taking place at Fair Park inside the Automobile Building on Nov. 8 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event open to everyone and offers free dinner and free transportation from the following locations:

Operation Turkey

Each year, Operation Turkey gears up to cook, prepare, pack and deliver hot meals on Thanksgiving Day.

Every meal includes turkey, stuffing and vegetables.

Meal deliveries will occur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fill out a request form at operationturkey.com to have food delivered to your household.

Meals of Thanks & Giving Food Distribution

The West Dallas Multipurpose Center will host a drive-through event to distribute uncooked turkeys and fresh produce to local families.

Distribution will take place Monday, Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 2828 Fish Trap Road.

Volunteers will distribute 300 bundles. Only one turkey and one bag of produce will be given per household and will be available to residents of ZIP codes 75208, 75211 and 75212.

Martin Luther King community Thanksgiving basket giveaway

Every year the Martin Luther King Fresh Produce Distribution center gives away free Thanksgiving baskets.

This year, the organization is giving away more than 400 baskets to families. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. at 2922 MLK Blvd.

Registration opened Nov. 7. Recipients must be registered and must be in a vehicle to participate in the drive-through. Limit 2 families per car.
