Court building in downtown Dallas partially closed due to ‘significant water leak’

Court appearances and appointments for Tuesday will need to be rescheduled.

The George Allen Courts Building in downtown Dallas closed Tuesday morning “due to a significant water leak,” officials said.

All court sessions and services were suspended until further notice, according to a Dallas County sheriff’s office news release.

“Individuals with scheduled court appearances or appointments are advised to contact their assigned court directly to reschedule their court date,” the release said. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve this issue.”

In a release late Tuesday afternoon, Dallas County said floors two through six of the courts building would be closed Wednesday through Friday. The first floor and the Jackson Street entrance would remain open to the public, the release said.

Dallas County offices were already scheduled to be closed Thursday for the July Fourth holiday.

The building, located on Commerce Street, houses multiple courtrooms for civil and family courts, and the Fifth Court of Appeals of Texas. The county clerk, district clerk, passport office, court tax office and more entities are located there.
