Woman found dead after carjacker abandons vehicle in Mansfield parking lot

Police said Monday night that a person of interest was in custody.

A woman was found dead after a carjacking Monday afternoon in Mansfield.

Police were called about 1 p.m. to the 1600 block of the North U.S. Highway 287 service road, where a woman had been carjacked at gunpoint.

The woman said the carjacker had gotten out of another car in the parking lot before stealing her vehicle.

In that car, officers found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Her name has not been released.

Police said they went to a location in Fort Worth that was linked to the abandoned car and found the stolen vehicle. A person of interest was in custody, but authorities did not release that person’s name.
