Fatal Carrollton house fire being investigated as murder-suicide, police say

Authorities said the three adults, all members of the same family, died before the fire spread.

Update: Revised at 7 p.m. Sunday with additional information from Carrollton police.

The blaze in Carrollton that left three people dead over the weekend is now being investigated as a murder-suicide, police said Sunday evening.

Carrollton Fire Rescue responded about 4 p.m. Saturday to a call about a house fire in the 3900 block of Alto Avenue. Authorities say as firefighters put the blaze out, they found three bodies in the home.

A 51-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man had “obvious signs of trauma,” authorities said. A 53-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities determined the three were members of the same family, and evidence indicated they died before the fire spread. Police said a medical examiner has not determined the causes of death for the people who died in the fire.

“Initial evidence indicates this was an isolated family incident and that there is no related threat to the area,” police have said in a news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
