What we know about the shooting at the State Fair of Texas

The State Fair posted on social media just after 8 p.m. that Fair Park was being evacuated.

Dallas police said a suspect is in custody after a shooting wounded three people around 7:45 p.m in the Tower Building.

The State Fair of Texas was evacuated Saturday night after gunfire left three people wounded and sent hundreds fleeing from Fair Park.

The fair plans to open at 2 p.m. Sunday, delaying its usual opening by four hours. Hundreds attended the fair a day after the shooting.

When and where did the shooting take place?

A Dallas police call log showed dozens of units responding to Fair Park for an assist-officer call about 7:50 p.m. The State Fair then posted on social media just after 8 p.m. that Fair Park was being evacuated, adding they urged the public to avoid the area.

Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua, whose district includes Fair Park, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the shooting occurred in the food court and was “sparked from a dispute between two people who knew each other.”

How many people were injured?

According to police, two men and a woman were wounded and they were in stable condition as of Sunday morning. Their names were not publicly released but one victim, who has since been released from a hospital, told The Dallas Morning News she was part of the fair’s cleaning crew and hid under a bench after being shot.

No fatalities were reported.

Has anyone been arrested?

According to police, one person was arrested after running from the scene of the shooting. Officers also recovered a gun at the scene.

Dallas police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Cameron Turner. He was booked into the Dallas County jail early Sunday morning facing three charges of aggravated assault. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Are guns allowed at the State Fair?

The State Fair’s website states no weapons are allowed on the fairgrounds but does say the fair “has long allowed Fair attendees with valid handgun licenses to carry their handguns in a concealed manner.”

Instead of metal detectors, fair visitors walk through what is known as an “open gate system.
