Police wrote in the affidavit that King and an unnamed witness had just arrived at the home from picking up King’s other children at school when they saw Vasquez standing near the entrance wearing a dark-colored ski mask and a red-hooded shirt.

The witness had turned around to grab groceries from the car when they heard multiple gunshots. After seeing King lying on the ground, wounded, the affidavit said the witness reportedly yelled, asking Vasquez why he would “shoot his father.” According to the affidavit, investigators determined King was Vasquez’s stepfather and that the two lived together.

Vasquez didn’t respond to the witness’ question, the affidavit said, and fled the scene.

Officers who responded to a 911 call about the shooting found Vasquez nearby and took him to police headquarters, where he declined to be interviewed and asked for a lawyer, according to the affidavit.

Vasquez remained in custody Friday, with bail set at $500,000.
