Arlington police seeking person of interest in fatal June hit-and-run

Police want to speak with a man who was known to drive suspect vehicle in fatal crash.

Arlington police said Thursday they want to speak with a man previously known to have driven a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in June.

Police did not identify Joel Sac Tambriz, 24, as a suspect. However, he has been known to drive a black 2019 Honda Civic hatchback that officers believe struck and killed Daniel Cruces, 30. Police did not say if they believe he was driving the car at the time of the crash.

The June 9 crash occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of West Pioneer Parkway and Center Street, police said in a news release.

Officers found Cruces lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police Cruces was in the crosswalk when he was hit, according to the release.

The car was found abandoned in the 700 block of East Pioneer Parkway. Witnesses told police they saw the driver run to a nearby apartment complex. Alcohol containers were found in the vehicle, police said.

Police said Tambriz was driving the vehicle during a January traffic stop.

Police said in the release if anyone sees Tambriz to call 911. The release also said anyone with information about his location should call Officer Trowbridge at (817) 575-8602, or by calling Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at (817) 469-8477.
