Officers injured in the Dallas police shooting still recovering

Both officers injured in the shooting have been with Dallas police for over 5 years

Days after three Dallas police officers were shot, one fatally, few details have emerged about the two wounded officers.

On Thursday night, Dallas police Officer Darron Burks was sitting in his marked patrol vehicle in Oak Cliff while between calls when he was “executed,” police said. Without knowing exactly what happened, Senior Cpls. Jamie Farmer and Karissa David were sent to help.

They responded within 10 minutes to the scene and were shot by suspect Corey Cobb-Bey, Dallas police Chief Eddie García said. Farmer, who was hit in the leg, returned fire and ran. David was shot in the face as she exited her vehicle but also returned fire, the chief said.

All three officers were taken to hospitals, where Burks, 46, died. David is in critical condition but listed as stable, while Farmer was treated and has been released, the chief said Friday evening.

David and Farmer have both worked as Dallas police officers for over 5 years, according to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records. In 2022, David was honored by the Sons of American Revolution for saving a man who crashed into a pole in 2020, according to a post on X.

David, 27, attended Evangel University, a private Christian university in Springfield, Mo., according to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records. A Facebook post asking for prayers said she played soccer there.

A high school classmate of David’s said that in their small graduating class, everyone wanted to be friends with David because she was a “girls’ girl.”

Lindsey Clements, who said she attended Washtenaw Christian Academy in Michigan with David, remembered her particularly for her intelligence and said she took nearly every advanced placement class the school offered. Clements said she and David had reconnected recently and were planning to catch up when Clements came to Dallas in October.

“The only thing I care about right now is that she makes a recovery and that she’s going to be okay,” Clements said. “I know she just got engaged, I can’t imagine how traumatic this is for her fiancé and her family.”

Farmer, 35, attended Tennessee State University, according to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records.

A Facebook account possibly connected with Farmer changed its profile picture Saturday to an image of a police badge over the Dallas skyline, the same image posted by García the morning after the shooting. In the comments, people expressed support and shared prayers for Farmer.

“Holy cow. Glad you (sic) are on the mend,” one comment read.
