Man found fatally shot in Mansfield, suspect arrested

Officers responded Thursday afternoon to the 800 block of Cutting Horse Drive.

A 17-year-old was found fatally shot in Mansfield on Thursday afternoon and a suspect was arrested Friday.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were sent to do a welfare check in the 800 block of Cutting Horse Drive, near Lariat Lane and Star Grass Drive.

The officers found the 17-year-old male unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Residents were giving him CPR, police said.

Mansfield Fire Department personnel arrived and he was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police said his identifying information will not be released.

On Friday, police announced 21-year-old Elijah Hatton had been arrested in the death. According to a Mansfield police news release, a suspect vehicle was identified and traced to an apartment complex in East Dallas. Hatton was taken into custody without incident and faces a murder charge, the release said.

Officials said in a news release that the police department “extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.”

Police said any suspect or suspects in the shooting fled before officers arrived. Police did not release any additional information and said an investigation is ongoing.
