A suspect will face criminal charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle Tuesday and leading police on a chase through Haltom City and Fort Worth, authorities said.
Haltom City officers responded about 7:30 a.m. to the 5900 block of Airport Freeway, near Lower Birdville Road, to a report of a vehicle being stolen.
The victim watched a vehicle pull up and drop off a man who then got into the victim’s Chevrolet Avalanche, police said. When the victim confronted the suspect, he drove away from the scene.
The victim told police a gun was inside the vehicle.
Shortly after, officers located the vehicle and tried to stop it but the suspect continued driving “leading to a brief pursuit,” according to the a news release. Police said the suspect struck a vehicle near the 3100 block of Yucca Avenue and continued driving before striking another vehicle a few blocks away in Fort Worth.
The man ran away and officers took him into custody in the backyard of a home on Primrose Avenue, police said. A gun believed to be discarded by the suspect was also recovered.
The suspect was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life threatening. No other injuries were reported.
Haltom City police withheld the suspect’s identity and what charges he is facing until the man is arraigned by the magistrate.
