Teen shot in Haltom City road rage incident identified; police seeking suspect

Police say suspect vehicle is a black 1999 Honda Accord with Texas license plate FNV9986.

A 16-year-old hospitalized last week following a road rage shooting in Haltom City has died, police said Tuesday.

The teen, identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner as Raul Gonzalez , died Monday evening, according to investigators. He was shot between 4:15 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 in the 4400 block of East Belknap Street, police said. The shooting occurred as two vehicles traveling northeast from Bernice Street passed through a traffic light at Layton Avenue, police said.

Police are now asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle and identifying its occupants at the time of the shooting. Police previously said someone inside the suspect vehicle, a black 1999 Honda Accord, shot at the vehicle carrying the teen and struck him.

The vehicle was described by police as having a grey hood and grey front-right quarter panel, with Texas license plate FNV9986, though police said it may be possible the suspects altered or removed the plate.

Police asked anyone with information on the incident to contact the department at 817-222-7000, or email detective Donovan Key at dkey@haltomcitytx.com or by phone at 817-222-7034.

Police are also seeking help from anyone who may have access to recordings of video cameras near the shooting.

Police said the incident appeared to be isolated and believe the victim and suspects did not know one another.
