2nd man arrested on murder charge in fatal shooting of 17-year-old in Mansfield

Two men are each facing a murder charge in last week’s fatal shooting.

A second man is facing a murder charge in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old last week in Mansfield, police say.

Michael Adrean Spencer, 19, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting, police said. Elijah Hatton, 21, was arrested on a murder charge the day after the shooting and remained jailed Thursday morning with bail for the charge set at $200,000, online Tarrant County jail records show.

An attorney listed for Hatton did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It is unclear if Spencer has an attorney, and he did not appear in online jail records Thursday morning.

The teenager killed was identified as Julious David Rogers, online records from the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office show.

Officers were sent to do a welfare check just after 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19, in the 800 block of Cutting Horse Drive, near Lariat Lane and Star Grass Drive. They found the teen unresponsive with a gunshot wound and residents were giving him CPR, police said.

Mansfield Fire Department personnel arrived and he was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said any suspects in the shooting had fled before officers arrived. Mansfield detectives worked through the night investigating the shooting, and a suspect vehicle was identified and found at an apartment complex in East Dallas.

Hatton was taken into custody by Mansfield SWAT officers Sept. 20. Both Hatton and Spencer were taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police have said that further details about how or why the shooting may have happened are still under investigation.
