Suspect in custody following hours-long standoff with Irving police

Police had asked public to avoid area near 4000 block of Block Drive. Scene still active as of 4:20 p.m.

Irving police took a suspect into custody after they barricaded themself in a residence near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for several hours Thursday, the department said on social media.

According to a 2:52 p.m. post on X, the incident took place in the 4000 block of Block Drive. The department asked the public to avoid the area and not post pictures or videos of officers for their safety and the safety of the community.

An Irving police spokesperson said police were still on scene at about 4:20 p.m. The spokesperson said Irving police SWAT were assisting Dallas police with an arrest warrant on an aggravated robbery suspect at about 12:15 pm.

The department said on X that the suspect was taken into custody as of 8:40 p.m. No one was injured in the incident, police said.

Police did not say if the suspect was armed or if the other individuals are facing charges.
