Suspect who triggered shelter-in-place order at Texas Wesleyan University in custody

Fort Worth university issued the directive shortly before 2:30 p.m.

A suspicious person on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University who was said to possibly be armed was in custody after the person prompted a shelter-in-place order Tuesday afternoon for the campus, authorities said.

The all clear order for the university was given at 3:48 p.m. after officers from the Fort Worth Police Department had detained the suspect, who was not immediately identified.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Students, faculty and staff were told to stay indoors and keep their doors locked shortly before 2:30 p.m.

An “all clear” message was posted on the university’s website shortly before 4 p.m., however.

University officials activated the order and then alerted the campus about the order, saying at 3:30 p.m. that it remained in place.

“A shelter-in-place is still in place,” the post said at 3:30 p.m. “Please continue to stay indoors and keep doors locked. More info will be available once we are given the all clear.”

According to the university, the suspicious person had been seen near the Nenetta Burton Carter Building, which is located on the corner of Binkley Street. and Avenue D.
