Man at center of Texas Blue Alert arrested in Fort Worth

Seth Michael Altman, 33, is facing charges of attempted murder of a peace officer.

Seth Michael Altman, the man at the center of a statewide Blue Alert earlier this month, was arrested Friday afternoon in Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth police arrested Altman just before 5 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Lancaster Avenue, according to a post on X from the department. Altman, 33, is accused of shooting and injuring Rex Plant, the police chief of Memphis, Texas, while the chief and another officer were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for a burglary charge.

Early in the morning of Oct. 4, Texans across the state were awoken by a Blue Alert for Altman, who police said shot Plant and left the scene the night prior. Following the shooting, Altman was added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s list of the top 10 most wanted fugitives.

Plant was released from the hospital shortly after the shooting, according to TV news stations in the Amarillo area.

The alert was canceled on Oct. 16, though it remains unclear why authorities canceled the alert.

Memphis is a small town in the Texas Panhandle, southeast of Amarillo and 280 miles from Dallas.

According to Fort Worth police, the arrest Friday was made without incident. Altman was booked into the Tarrant County jail on a charge of attempted murder of a peace officer. His bail has not been set as of Friday evening.
