A collection of work from budding North Texas artists is on display at Dallas Love Field Airport and public transit buses through August 31. An annual tradition, Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s student art contest features work from kindergarteners through high school seniors.
This year’s theme was “Everyday Heroes Ride DART,” honoring North Texans that have helped their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Paintings, drawings and other designs show a variety of hometown heroes, from doctors and nurses to police and firefighters. The art is located near the baggage claim area at Love Field.
“When you think about the people who really got it through this pandemic, nurses and doctors, our frontline workers, are the ones that saved us, and the students saw that,” DART spokesman Gordon Shattles said.
Shattles said some DART buses are also showcasing the art on the interior walls of the vehicles. But one artist, Collin Chon, got to see his work displayed on the outside of a DART bus after winning the top spot in the contest.
Chon, who is in 5th grade at Greenhill School in Addison, included first responders, construction workers, those in foodservice and DART operators in his art piece.
