Four years after the deadly Santa Fe school shooting, Texas families are in mourning once again after a gunman killed 19 children and two adults.

The Tuesday shooting at Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School, near San Antonio, was the deadliest school shooting in Texas.

At least 26 school shootings have occurred in the country this year, according to an Education Week tracker, and 118 similar incidents since 2018.

Late last year, four people were injured in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington.

Before the Texas shooting on Tuesday, at least 77 incidents of gunfire were reported on school grounds across the country this year, causing 14 deaths and 45 injuries, according to a nonprofit that advocates for gun safety.

More than two decades ago, two shooters killed 12 students and one teacher at Columbine High School in Colorado.

Since then, the nation has seen a spate of mass school shootings.

Santa Fe, 10 killed

In May 2018, a gunman killed 10 people and injured 13 at Santa Fe High School near Houston. The mother of one victim said her daughter had rejected the gunman’s advances a week before the attack.

The Santa Fe tragedy spurred a series of laws that, among other things, gave money to school systems to “harden” their campuses.

Abbott also awarded several million in school safety grants in the aftermath of the Santa Fe shooting.

University of Texas, 16 killed

The deadliest school shooting in Texas history occurred more than 50 years ago. In 1966, at the University of Texas, a student opened fire from the school’s iconic tower. The gunman killed 16 and wounded an additional 31.

Virginia Tech, 32 killed

A gunman on a shooting spree killed 32 people on the campus in 2007.

Sandy Hook, 26 killed

In 2012, 20 children and six staff members were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

Umpqua Community College, 9 killed

A college student fatally shot an assistant professor and eight students in a classroom in 2015.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, 17 killed

A gunman killed 17 on Valentine’s Day in 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
