Denton ISD employee accused of assaulting boy in Hickory Creek, officials say

Officers found insufficient probable cause to make an arrest Saturday, police said.

Hickory Creek police on Monday were investigating an alleged altercation over the weekend involving a Denton Independent School District employee and a 12-year-old boy, authorities confirmed.

Officers received a 911 call at 6:38 p.m. on Saturday about a “possible disturbance” at a gas station in the 4300 block of FM 2181, Hickory Creek police Chief Carey W. Dunn said in a statement. Hickory Creek is about 25 miles northwest of downtown Dallas.

A video taken by an apparent witness at the gas station garnered thousands of views on TikTok and YouTube.

At the gas station, responding officers saw “several individuals” reporting that the adult man had assaulted the boy at a nearby Walmart. The officers located the parties — one of whom had driven away from the gas station — and received “conflicting statements” about the incident, Dunn said.

Officers found insufficient probable cause to make an arrest at the gas station.

“There were no immediately visible signs of assault, injury, or other evidence to support an offense had occurred,” Dunn said in the statement.

The statement does not identify anyone involved in the incident. Dunn declined to identify the Denton ISD employee, citing the pending investigation.

A Denton ISD spokesperson on Monday acknowledged “allegations that have surfaced online” and confirmed the incident involved a district employee.

“Since this alleged incident occurred over the weekend in the community, we must allow law enforcement to complete their investigation before any additional action, if deemed necessary, is taken. The Denton ISD Human Resources Department is working diligently with law enforcement to address this situation,” the district’s statement reads.
