U.S. Rep. Ron Wright of Arlington defends his seat in Congress against Texas Democrat Stephen Daniel

The freshman Republican won the race after battling lung cancer during the campaign.

Arlington Rep. Ron Wright, a freshman Republican, defended his seat in Congress against Democrat Stephen Daniel, an attorney with ties to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.

Health care was a prominent issue in the race, particularly as Wright fought lung cancer during the campaign. Daniel slammed his opponent over the GOP’s efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, while Wright accused the Democrat of pursuing extreme proposals.

Compared with candidates in other battlegrounds, neither contender received much financial support from donors.
