A butterfly and pollinator garden is opening in Grapevine Mills mall later this month.
Designed by Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center, the 100-square foot installation will have pollinator-friendly plants like milkweed, which attracts pollinators including monarch butterflies and bees, according to a press release from the mall. The garden aims to encourage community members to grow more pollinator-friendly plants.
Pollinator populations have declined over the last couple decades, but are crucial to modern food production, the release says.
While the garden will be a permanent space, its purpose will be seasonal, dependent on pollinators’ migration routes, a mall representative told Community Impact.
The mall has also recently announced plans to bring a pop-up exhibit based on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things and a permanent Meow Wolf immersive art exhibit, as well as the opening of Macy’s Backstage.
