Keller ISD third-grader Brandon Ballard thought he was participating in a pep rally for the STAAR test on Monday, when his older brother, U.S. Marine Isaac Ballard, walked through the doors of his classroom at Woodland Springs Elementary.
Immediately bursting into tears and grabbing his older brother for a hug, it was Brandon’s first time seeing Isaac in years, and in a similar visit later on Monday at Trinity Meadows Intermediate School, Isaac also surprised his sixth-grader sister.
The Marine has been in Japan since 2019, and it was his first visit stateside since the pandemic. He’ll be back home for the next three weeks, according to a tweet from Keller ISD.
“What a special day for the Ballard family, and Keller ISD was honored to be part of it! Welcome home Isaac, and thank you for your service!” Keller ISD wrote on Twitter.
