A lucky player’s ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday’s drawing to win the record-setting Powerball jackpot.

The winning ticket was purchased in California.

The estimated size of the jackpot is $1billion, according to Powerball. The cash value is more than $516 million.

This jackpot ranks as the game’s third-largest jackpot on record and the largest jackpot so far this year, according to Powerball.

Before the Wednesday win, Monday’s drawing marked the 37th in which no player had all six matching numbers. The last time a player had won the jackpot prize was April 19.

Three dozen tickets, including four in Texas, had five of the matching numbers Wednesday. Those players, who also bought their tickets in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and West Virginia each won the $1 million prize.

Players in Florida, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island also matched all five numbers and had a power play, winning them $2 million each.

The jackpot prize was $20 million Thursday morning ahead of the next drawing.

Drawings are 9:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to a Powerball news release.

While the record-breaking Powerball prize is no longer accumulating, the Mega Millions jackpot’s next drawing will be for one of the largest prizes in game history.
