Donald Trump visits Texas today to tape Joe Rogan podcast, discuss immigration

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, in a tight race for reelection, will join Trump in Austin.

AUSTIN — Former President Donald Trump will be in Texas on Friday to record a podcast interview with comedian Joe Rogan and deliver a statement on immigration in Austin.

The interview comes as Trump works to shore up support among young men. “The Joe Rogan Experience” has tens of millions of subscribers across platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.

In Austin, the Republican presidential nominee also will speak to reporters about border security and migrant crime, according to his campaign. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who is running for reelection against U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas, is expected to join Trump at his 12:30 p.m. media appearance.

Texas isn’t a traditional presidential battleground, but it offers an ideal backdrop for each candidate’s key issue in the final days of the campaign. Texas shares a southern border with Mexico and has one of the nation’s strictest abortion bans.

Before Trump’s morning arrival in Austin, his campaign released statements critical of Harris’ handling of border issues from Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and other top Republican officials.

“President Donald Trump has shown real leadership on the border, with successful border policies that decreased illegal immigration to the lowest level in decades,” Abbott said. “While Kamala Harris refuses to take real action on this crisis, Texas will continue to step up with our historic border mission until we have a partner in the White House to make America secure again.”
