Dallas County reports 4 coronavirus deaths, 112 new cases; Tarrant County adds 1 fatality

The vast majority of recent cases are among people who weren’t fully vaccinated, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said.

Dallas County reported four more COVID-19 deaths and 112 new coronavirus cases Wednesday.

The latest victims were two Garland residents, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s; a Mesquite woman in her 70s; and a Rowlett man in his 70s. All four had underlying high-risk health conditions.

County Judge Clay Jenkins urged residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible, noting in a written statement that 93% of the county’s new cases in the last full week of May were among people who were not fully vaccinated against the virus.

“We know that the vaccine is safe and effective,” Jenkins said. “Please don’t delay and get vaccinated today.”

Of the new cases, 78 were confirmed and 34 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 304,271, including 261,334 confirmed and 42,937 probable. The death toll is 4,081.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 95. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 137.

According to the state, 1,195,993 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 952,766 — 43.7% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 3,945 more cases were reported Wednesday, including 1,628 new cases and 2,317 older ones recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 43 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 50,733.

Of the new cases, 1,277 were confirmed and 351 were probable. Of the older cases, 2,284 were confirmed and 33 were probable.

The state’s case total is now 2,966,369, including 2,531,691 confirmed and 434,678 probable.

According to the state, 13,103,910 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 10,718,282 — 44.5% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported one death and 66 cases Wednesday.

The latest victim was a Fort Worth woman in her 30s who had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Of the new cases, 49 were confirmed and 17 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 261,507, including 218,759 confirmed and 42,748 probable. The death toll is 3,531.

According to the state, 894,885 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 750,657 — 43.2% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added one death to Collin County’s totals Wednesday.

No details about the latest victim were available.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, a system security upgrade has prevented new case counts for Collin County since May 28, but the state hopes to resume reporting the county’s case numbers later this week or early next week.

The county’s case total is 91,521, including 75,111 confirmed and 16,410 probable. The death toll is 836.

According to the state, 554,326 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 465,316 — 53.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported 44 cases Wednesday. No additional deaths were reported.

The newly reported cases bring the county’s case total to 76,434, including 56,036 confirmed and 20,398 probable. The death toll is 604.

According to the state, 433,395 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 361,757 — 48.2% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

  • Rockwall County: 11,719 cases (9,390 confirmed and 2,329 probable), 156 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 16,346 cases (13,547 confirmed and 2,799 probable), 262 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 23,119 cases (19,105 confirmed and 4,014 probable), 319 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 20,018 cases (16,930 confirmed and 3,088 probable), 372 deaths.
