Dallas County reported three-day totals of three COVID-19 deaths and 1,453 new coronavirus cases Tuesday.
County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that many of the county’s beds filled by coronavirus patients are now occupied by people in their 20s to 40s. Jenkins noted that that age group roughly corresponds to the ages of parents whose children will soon be going back to school, and asked residents to cooperate with school districts that encourage children to wear masks on campus.
“We’re all tired of COVID and we’re all tired of the fight, but we cannot give up now” he said.
Of the new cases, 1,296 were confirmed and 157 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 314,372, including 269,408 confirmed and 44,964 probable. The death toll is 4,186.
Dallas County no longer releases coronavirus data on weekends and instead reports three-day totals on Tuesdays.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 404. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 164.
The county reported that 350 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 1,330,385 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,131,298 — 51.9% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Texas
Across the state, 8,642 more cases were reported Tuesday, including 8,500 new cases and 142 older ones recently reported by labs.
The state also reported 37 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 51,890.
Of the new cases, 6,571 were confirmed and 1,929 were probable. Of the older cases, 95 were confirmed and 47 were probable.
The state’s case total is now 3,075,316, including 2,611,808 confirmed and 463,508 probable.
The state reported that 4,982 people were hospitalized with the virus statewide, including 1,245 in North Texas. Both numbers were at their highest levels since early March.
Test positivity rates also continued to climb, reaching 14.7% for molecular tests and 9.0% for antigen, or rapid, tests. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.
According to the state, 14,657,490 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 12,572,118 — 52.2% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported three deaths and 405 cases Tuesday.
Of the new cases, 392 were confirmed and 13 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 271,068, including 225,889 confirmed and 45,179 probable. The death toll is 3,622.
The county reported that 458 people were hospitalized with the virus, the most since late February.
According to the state, 993,467 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 871,398 — 50.1% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Collin County
The state added 155 cases to Collin County’s totals Tuesday. No additional deaths were reported.
Of the new cases, 110 were confirmed and 45 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 95,340, including 77,678 confirmed and 17,662 probable. The death toll is 858.
The county reported that 171 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 605,345 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 535,167 — 61.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County reported 204 cases Tuesday. No additional deaths were reported.
The newly reported cases bring the county’s case total to 79,128, including 57,740 confirmed and 21,388 probable. The death toll is 630.
The county reported that 62 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 472,564 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 418,025 — 55.7% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Other counties
The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.
The latest numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 12,368 cases (9,782 confirmed and 2,586 probable), 159 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 16,950 cases (13,948 confirmed and 3,002 probable), 269 deaths.
- Ellis County: 23,487 cases (19,206 confirmed and 4,281 probable), 325 deaths.
- Johnson County: 20,534 cases (17,306 confirmed and 3,228 probable), 381 deaths.
