Each household can order up to four free COVID-19 tests each

Households can once again order up to four free COVID-19 tests. These tests can identify newer variants and can be used through the end of this year, according to the FDA website.

The new COVID-19 variant, XEC, arrived just before fall. The website to order free COVID tests was live as of Thursday morning.

Mailed free COVID-19 tests have made a comeback following the FDA’s approval of updated vaccines that offer protection against the latest coronavirus strains.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, vaccination is the most effective method for preventing COVID-19 infections, while testing plays a crucial role in controlling the virus’s spread.

If you test negative test but have symptoms, the FDA recommends taking a second test 48 hours later.

For individuals who have been exposed to the virus but are not experiencing symptoms, the FDA suggests taking three tests, each 48 hours apart.

These preventive measures are encouraged due to a surge of COVID-19 cases across the U.S. this summer.
