Investigation underway after 1 dead in shooting at Fort Worth hotel, police say

Police responded to a shots call at a hotel Sunday morning.

Authorities are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting death at a hotel in Fort Worth, police said.

About 12:23 a.m., Fort Worth police were called to a hotel in the 4400 block of South Freeway and found a man who had been shot in the torso, police said in a news release Monday afternoon.

The person, who police did not identify in the news release, died despite attempts by others nearby to keep them alive, police said.

Detectives learned the person who died and “the suspect who shot him” were in a hotel room with other people at the time of the shooting, police said. A handgun in the suspect’s possession had been fired, striking the victim, according to the news release.

Authorities did not make arrests. An investigation was ongoing as of Monday afternoon, according to the news release.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office will identify the deceased once next-of-kin has been notified, police said.
