Death toll in Sunday I-30 crash in Dallas updated to 2 dead

The crash occurred about 6 a.m. and shut down multiple lanes of traffic Sunday morning

A fatal crash Sunday morning closed a portion of Interstate 30 near Buckner Boulevard in Dallas.

A pickup traveling the wrong way collided head on with a U-Haul truck, killing two people inside the pickup, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m., the Texas Department of Transportation incident tracker showed.

All eastbound traffic on I-30 at the split with U.S. 80 was redirected because of the crash as deputies remained at the scene most of the morning, police said.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson said at least one person died at the scene after a two-vehicle collision on I-30 near Jim Miller Road caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames while someone was still inside.

Lanes on that section of interstate, also referred to as East R. L. Thornton Freeway, reopened by 11 a.m.
