No students injured in DeSoto ISD’s burning bus incident Friday

The bus driver managed to evacuate the students before the engine went up in flames.

All students in the DeSoto ISD bus fire incident Friday afternoon are said to be safe, according to a statement from the district.

The bus was transporting students from one campus to another when the driver noticed fumes coming from the vehicle. The driver then pulled over, evacuated all of the students off the bus and led them away from the vehicle.

While they waited for another bus to pick them up, the engine in the other bus went up in flames. However, the fire was quickly contained and put out, according to the statement from the district.

According to KXAS-TV (NBC5), the Texas Sky Ranger flight over the area showed charring and extensive damage near the engine compartment and driver’s side window.

However, the district statement said no one was hurt, and the students were able to be transported to their destination with no additional problems. It is not clear where they were headed.
