After nearly an inch and a half of rain Sunday, overnight storms brought more rain Monday morning — and more storms, rain and flooding are expected this week.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to bring as much as six additional inches of rain to the region throughout the rest of the week. With the soil already saturated from the weekend’s rain, the additional rainfall is likely to cause flooding in roads, creeks and rivers.

Although the sun broke through the clouds during a spell of dry weather Monday afternoon, storms developing in West Texas were expected to become a complex and arrive in North Texas overnight, according to the weather service. Some of the storms could be severe.

Forecasts call for rain to continue off and on each day through the weekend before skies clear up early next week. The heaviest rainfall in Dallas-Fort Worth is expected on Wednesday.

The main threat from the week’s storms, the weather service said, will be excessive rain, hail and damaging winds.

According to KXAS-TV (NBC5), some breaks in the rain could bring brief bouts of sunshine. High temperatures should be in the high 70s or low 80s through the week.
