High temperatures hovering in 90s next few days. How long will this Dallas heat wave last?

High temperatures throughout North Texas will be well above normal.

North Texas is feeling the heat despite fall being just days away.

A late summer heatwave is unfolding across the area as high temperatures ascend into the mid-to-upper 90s and the heat index breaks triple digits, according to the KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecast.

The forecast described the temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth — and heat index maybe hitting 105 — as “well above normal.”

The hottest day will be Friday, according to to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, with no rain expected most of the weekend. Low storm chances may return to some areas late Sunday.

A strong heat dome has centered over Texas and will likely hold strong into the weekend, causing the noticeably hot temperatures, meteorologists say. The dome should weaken by next week and allow a cold front to move through with temperatures expected to drop back to around the upper 80s — normal for this time of year — through at least midweek.
