Sunny skies, low humidity expected for opening weekend at State Fair of Texas

Dallas-Fort Worth isn’t expected to get rain this weekend.

The weather should be sunny and seasonably warm — but not too humid — for opening weekend of the State Fair of Texas.

Fairgoers should be able to indulge in creative fried food, play games on the Midway and cheer on cowboys at the rodeo without the chance of rain or sweltering heat. (A change from last year when opening day had temperatures in the mid to upper 90s!)

There will be a gradual warming trend this weekend into next week with temperatures in the mid 80s Friday then upper 80s to lower 90s by Monday, said Allison Prater, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

“That’s generally a little bit above normal for that time frame, but humidity shouldn’t be too much of an issue,” she said.

The heat index this weekend should mirror, or even be a degree or two lower than, the actual air temperature.

Some forecasts show low rain chances Friday in North Texas but Dallas-Fort Worth will likely remain dry with showers predicted to be east of the area, Prater said.

There may be some clouds at some point, but mostly sunny skies are expected in Dallas throughout the weekend.

Though it won’t be 100 degrees with sticky heat, Prater said, folks should still pay attention to drinking enough water and staying cool.
