1 Charley Pride — Thinking that many if not most readers are really tired of reading letters that are for the most part political ads that spew out vitriol, in the spirit of cohesiveness I am offering up an idea that might gain 100% agreement. The idea is to give citywide recognition to an outstanding man: Charley Pride. During the past couple of years, I have reached out to a Dallas City Council member asking to arrange for the council to recognize Pride for what he is — a national treasure who happens to live among us. But, alas, my efforts received no traction.
Consequently, it is left up to me to recognize him in my small way by writing this letter and hoping it will be published in your fine paper. Oh, how about naming what was previously known as Lee Park as Charley Pride Park? What say you, citizens of Dallas?

2 Trinity Christian Academy — I used to dream of summer and dread September. But you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. COVID-19 shut schools down in March, and many are still struggling. I feel fortunate to attend Trinity Christian Academy. It has always been proactive and creative with online learning. Our teachers embraced Zoom, created new ways of teaching, and kept us engaged while being flexible with everyday changes.
When Texas schools could reopen, TCA jumped at the chance to bring us back to campus. It took hours of planning from teachers and administration, technology, sanitation and cafeteria personnel to allow us to return to school and feel as normal as possible.
Last week, I was able to participate in a tribute video to let our teachers know how much we appreciate what they do. We wanted to tell them that we see them doing health screenings, moving desks, cleaning classrooms, putting tables outside for lunch, teaching through masks and staying late for extracurricular activities, and we are so grateful.
I love being in school — I learn better in person, interacting with my community and maintaining a social-emotional connection. Thank you for going the extra mile to keep our doors open!

3 Ovilla Road construction crew — I do not know who was in charge of the recent construction and widening of Ovilla Road (Highway 664). They are to be commended for the job they did. A beautiful thoroughfare was created and this work made traffic patterns much better in this area. The work was done in a minimum amount of time and with few traffic disruptions. Thanks to all responsible for a wonderful job.
Thomas Cannaday, Ovilla
