Letters to the Editor — Three cheers to U.S. Postal Service, Isis Brantley, Boutros’ op-ed

Readers appreciate the U.S. Postal Service; Texan of the Year finalist Isis Brantley; and Victor Boutros’ column on human trafficking.

1 The U.S. Postal Service — We received a notice that a package was delivered to our mailbox on Jan. 4. On Jan. 5, there was no package. A day later, I filled out the form provided by our postal service to indicate that a package showed it was delivered, but hadn’t been received.

Several hours later, I received a phone call from our mailman to let me know it may have been put in the mailbox very close to ours. We contacted our neighbor who found it with his mail.

Kudos to the process with the U.S. Postal Service and to our mailman who called to let us know that there may have been an error! There aren’t many businesses that provide such an efficient service.

2 Isis Brantley — Re: “Texan of the Year Finalist: Isis Brantley — Braider fought to help Texas understand Black hair,” Dec. 29 editorial.

I read the story of Isis Brantley with great interest. As a white woman in my 70s with totally straight hair, I marvel at the natural hair of African Americans. It is gratifying to see so many different hairstyles being worn by Black men and women — as well as those of other cultures.

People like Brantley have fought long and hard for the “right” to express themselves in their hairstyles, and I for one am excited to see this. It brings new vitality and diversity to our everyday world.

I only wish I could understand how those hairstyles are created and maintained. Thank you, Ms. Brantley, and so many others, for making our community a more interesting, beautiful and creative place.

3 Victor Boutos’ column — Re: “From the U.S. to Uganda, hope is rising — Texans are transforming the fight against human trafficking,” by Victor Boutros, Dec. 24 Opinion.

Thank you for this opinion piece by Boutros. I so appreciated the incredible column that shed light and hope on such an important topic. I’m grateful for the work that is being done around the world to end human trafficking and proud that such impactful work originated from a native Texan, funded by others from Texas.

Let’s keep this sort of news before us. Thank you.
