The city of McKinney has secured the Byron Nelson golf tournament for the next five years.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting was held Tuesday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, celebrating the new home for the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament.
The PGA tournament will debut at its Collin County location May 10–16, 2021.
“We couldn’t be more excited by the support we have received from everyone at TPC Craig Ranch, the City of McKinney and the Collin County community,” Jeff Walter, 2021 AT&T Byron Nelson tournament chair, said in a release. “We look forward to working together to host the best players in the world as we shine a spotlight on McKinney, Texas, and deliver the best AT&T Byron Nelson to date.”
The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. It was to be held at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, where it moved to in 2018 after 35 years at the TPC Four Seasons in Irving. The decision to move the tournament was made after two years of disappointing attendance and declining financial results.
The new home at TPC Craig Ranch is part of a five-year agreement with course operator ClubCorp. Key partners for the tournament include the City of McKinney, Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, Healthcare Highways and Independent Financial. They join returning Premier Partners Cadillac and Anheuser-Busch.
According to tournament sources, the event’s hospitality is already 77% sold, with more than 95% of customers committing to multi-year deals. More than 20 Collin County companies have already committed.
