Duncanville star, Texas and A&M commits selected for elite QB recruit camp

Keelon Russell, Duncanville High School quarterback, will compete in the Elite 11 Finals this week.

Keelon Russell, a quarterback out of Duncanville High School, is one of 20 rising senior quarterbacks selected to compete in the Elite 11 Finals. Among the others are K.J. Lacey, a University of Texas commit, and four-star recruit and Texas A&M commit, Husan Longstreet.

The three-day camp brings the nation’s top Class of 2025 quarterbacks to Los Angeles. There, the athletes will square off in a highly competitive atmosphere. They will take part in on-field drills, classroom instruction and off-field development.

Russell is ranked as the No. 7 quarterback in the country and No. 39 overall player. Earlier this month, the 6-foot-3 and 182-pound four-star recruit flipped his commitment from SMU to Alabama. This past season, Russell threw for 3,267 yards and recorded 35 touchdowns, averaging 2.3 touchdowns per game.

In 15 games last season for Saraland in Alabama, Lacey completed 69.5% of his passes for 3,448 yards and 42 touchdowns. Additionally, he scored five rushing touchdowns. The 6-foot and 175-pound quarterback was the Longhorns’ first commit from the 2025 class last summer.

Longstreet, the soon-to-be Aggie, completed nearly 67% of his passes during his junior season at Centennial High School in Corona, California. He threw for 3,013 yards for 24 touchdowns and rushed for an additional 645 yards which added seven more scores.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Elite 11. Former notable quarterbacks to compete in this event include former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, current UT quarterback Quinn Ewers and former UT alumnus Vince Young.

The Elite 11 events begin on Tuesday and come to a close on Thursday.

At the end of the three-day-long competition, the 2024 Elite 11 will be crowned by officials and an MVP with be titled.
