Baylor junior Jared Butler declares for 2021 NBA draft after leading Bears to national title

Butler was a consensus first team All-American and led Baylor in scoring in his second season in Waco.

Baylor’s national title defense just got a lot more difficult after junior guard Jared Butler on Sunday declared for the upcoming NBA draft on Twitter.

Butler was a key part of Baylor’s run to the first men’s basketball national championship in school history, leading the Bears in scoring with 16.7 points per game. In his two years at Baylor, Butler was named first team All-Big 12 twice and was a consensus first team All-American this past season.

Though Butler never played college basketball for any program other than Baylor, he initially signed with Alabama to play under Avery Johnson. But when Johnson left the Crimson Tide, Butler was released from his national letter of intent after enrolling at Alabama as a freshman but never participating in workouts.
