Baylor DL Gabe Hall ranked among top ‘freaks’ in college football

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman released his 2022 list of freaks in college football recently.

We all know how successful Baylor football was in 2021.

A Big 12 Championship and Sugar Bowl trophy are proof of that. While it’s easy to give credit to guys like conference defensive player of the year Jalen Pitre or Sugar Bowl MVP Terrel Bernard, some of the biggest heroes came from the trenches.

On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman released his 2022 college football freaks list and he had DL Gabe Hall ranked 17th in the nation.

The 6′6, 296-pound fourth-year junior is a frightening matchup for opposing offensive lines.

Feldman made sure to acknowledge some of Hall’s companions in Siaki “Apu” Ika and newcomer Jaxon Player, saying they were just as worthy of a selection. However, with Hall’s incredible frame, Feldman had to go with the Waller, Texas native.

Feldman said Hall, “bench pressed 500 pounds, power-cleans 465 pounds, did 750 pounds on the trap bar deadlift and squatted 650 (the BU strength staff stopped him or else Hall’s probably lifting a lot more).”

Those are pretty freak-ish numbers, and it gets even more insane.

Feldman also noted how Hall clocked 18.2 mph on the GPS. Yes, you read that correctly. Even at 6-6 Hall can move with the best of them.

It will be interesting to see if Hall can continue to translate his exceptional skill and physique on to the gridiron, as he recorded six sacks and seven tackles for loss in 2021.

Other Gabe Hall notables:

  • 2022 Preseason All-Big 12 Third Team
  • Had a career day at Kansas State (11/20) with three sacks, first Baylor player since James Lynch in 2019 to have three in a single game.
  • Played in 13 games with eight starts in 2021
  • Finished second on the team in sacks, fourth in TFL’s last season
