CFP announces dates, kick times, broadcast information for 2024-25 playoff

The expanded 12-team playoff will begin on Dec. 20 and conclude one month later on Jan. 20.

On Wednesday, the College Football Playoff announced details for the inaugural, expanded 12-team playoff.

The Cotton Bowl will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Friday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN, and will serve as a CFP semifinal matchup.

TNT will share viewing rights with ABC and ESPN for the first round of playoff games before all of the matchups shift to ESPN exclusively once the quarterfinals start. All of the first-round playoff games will conclude within a 24 hour period. Additionally, there will be on week between each of the first three rounds, before the traditional two week break prior to the national championship.

While the 12-team playoff will be three times the size of the current playoff, the CFP management committee has already discussed the possibility of further expansion. In late Feb. the potential of a 14-team bracket was brought up during a CFP meeting in Dallas.
