Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman appears on NFL draft sleepers list

Weigman appeared on ESPN’s list of under-the-radar prospects, along with a pair of incoming transfers for Texas and Oklahoma.

Matt Miller, one of ESPN’s draft analysts, polled over a dozen NFL scouts and executives to compile a list of 14 draft sleepers for the 2025 draft class. Each year, teams do summer scouting and try to identify prospects that could shoot up draft boards during the college football season. Last year’s draft sleepers list identified a future first-round pick in Graham Barton and two other top-65 picks in Ladd McConkey and Malachi Corley.

Conner Weigman, QB, Texas A&M

The lone quarterback on the list is Texas A&M’s signal-caller Conner Weigman. Weigman played in just four games in 2023 and passed for 979 yards with a 68.9% completion rate. He shoved off his mobility as well with two rushing touchdowns. He missed most of the season with a right foot injury. Weigman is listed at 6-3, weighing in at 215 pounds.

Miller points out that there is a strong track record over the last few years of a quarterback skyrocketing up draft boards into the first round as the season wears on. He says one NFL general manager told him Weigman could be that player in next year’s draft.

“I am telling you right now, Weigman will be the breakout quarterback this year,” a GM told Miller. “He’ll be the guy everyone is asking, ‘Where’d he come from?’ next spring.”

NFL teams will be keeping an eye on Weigman as he hopes for a full season under Mike Elko’s coaching staff. The excitement for Weigman is palpable locally as well, as he appeared on the cover of the summer edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine with Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Trey Moore, DE, Texas

Moore was one of the top players in the transfer portal out of UTSA, and he ultimately decided to stay in the state and head to Austin. He is a 6-foot-3, 235-pound pass rusher who tallied 14 sacks in 2023, topping his eight-sack total in 2022.

Miller spoke with an AFC scout whose responsibility is the state of Texas, and the scout compared Moore to Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner. Turner went No. 17 overall to the Vikings in April. “Moore is exactly what [the Longhorns] were missing,” the scout said. “He’s light, but we aw that work last year with Turner. Moore is a really similar guy who could rocket up boards.”

Miller praised Moore for elite burst at the line of scrimmage and noted that he ranked fourth in the FBS in pressure rate last season, getting to QBs at a 19.2% rate.

One thing to keep an eye on with Moore is a jump in competition. He, along with Texas, will be adjusting to the new level of competition in the SEC.

Deion Burks, WR, Oklahoma

Like Moore for Texas, Burks is another transfer portal addition. Burks heads to Norman to join the Sooners after spending time at Purdue. He had seven touchdown catches last season and should help out Oklahoma’s new quarterback Jackson Arnold. Burks caught touchdowns of 64 and 50 yards from Arnold in Oklahoma’s spring game.

Miller spoke with an AFC scout that made a lofty player comparison that Oklahoma fans may recognize.

“If you watch the spring game, you can see the chemistry they already have,” the scout said. “Not to make a helmet comparison, but Burks can be a Hollywood Brown-type dude there.”

Burks is a deep threat like Brown but has a much bigger frame. Burks is listed at 5-foot-11, two inches taller than the 5-foot-9 Brown.

Burks will be a key piece for the Sooners in Oklahoma’s first journey through the SEC gauntlet.
