Texas and SMU headline Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s preseason All-Texas teams

The Mustangs and Longhorns each had 10 players appeared in the magazine’s preseason All-Texas teams, including Preston Stone and Quinn Ewers.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football published its preseason All-Texas teams on Monday, highlighting a first and second team on both sides of the ball. The lists include 54 players (28 offense, 26 defense) from 12 of the 13 FBS teams in the state.

Texas and SMU had the most players highlighted, with 10 players from each school making the All-Texas team.

TCU, Texas Tech, Texas State, and UTSA were next, each with five players on the list.

Houston is the only school without a player on the list. The Cougars had two players on the list in the spring, but both players have since transferred out.

Texas quarterback and cover athlete of the magazine’s summer edition Quinn Ewers headlines the first team while SMU quarterback Preston Stone headlines the second team.

There is tons of talent on the First Team Offense alongside Ewers. Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks headlines the running backs after finishing fourth in the FBS in rushing with 1,541 yards in 2023.

Texas Tech’s Josh Kelly (transferred from Washington State) and Texas’ Isaiah Bond (transferred from Alabama) lead the way for the receivers. Kelvin Banks out of Texas was named the best offensive lineman in the state.

The First Team Defense has three Longhorns, with Texas’ Jahdae Barron being named the best defensive back in the state. The defensive line is led by SMU’s Elijah Roberts, rated DCTF’s best defensive lineman in the state.

Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton was one of the top players in the transfer portal out of Purdue and is the other first team defensive end. Fellow Aggie Taurean York was named the best linebacker in the state.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football highlighted some of the top talent in the state, setting up what should be a memorable college football season locally with Texas reuniting with Texas A&M in the SEC, SMU joining the ACC, and the new-look Big 12 beginning a new era.
