TCU men’s basketball to face Texas, Arkansas in preseason exhibitions

TCU men’s basketball opens its season at home on Nov. 4 against Florida A&M.

TCU men’s basketball team starts play with two preseason exhibition games against Arkansas and Texas.

The exhibition against Arkansas is set for Oct. 19 at Dickies Arena in San Antonio, and TCU will host Texas on Nov. 1.

Head coach Jamie Dixon said the matchup with Texas will be a closed scrimmage, for now, but more details about the game are still being worked out.

“I’m excited about our group, excited about this team,” he said. “The kids came together well in the summer.”

Dixon compared this team to his experience as a junior college coach at LA Valley College. “We had a new team every year and just embraced it. You know, when you get a new group, you can experiment.”

A concern prior to this year was how the team was going to adapt with new players.

“We have a lot of new guys, but so does everybody,” Dixon said.

Dixon is confident that the new players will step up to fill in the gaps of last year’s roster, and has already seen leadership from senior guard Frankie Collins.

“He’s a natural leader,” Dixon said. “We knew he was had that leadership ability. We knew he had the toughness.”
