Cowboys' loss raises questions about the future of Jason Garrett, Dez Bryant and Dak Prescott

Bob Sturm, SportsDayDFW.com contributor and co-host of BaD Radio weekdays from noon to 3 p.m. on SportsRadio 1310-AM and 96.7-FM The Ticket, gives his reactions to the Cowboys' loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday:

Why on earth would the Cowboys not give Ezekiel Elliott the ball inside the 5?

They have married themselves to the run-pass option in the red zone and it has served them quite well. They elevated the Dak Prescott decision making responsibility in training camp, and we said back then that it all seemed to be very quickly that he was now making Romo-Year 10 decisions at the line. Clearly, we have seen this season that he was pushed too quickly. He has not seen the calls correctly too often to make you second guess those who thought he was ready and then never took the reins back. This is Scott Linehan and Jason Garrett trusting a QB before they should have. And, I think they were willing to sink with the ship rather than risk shaking his confidence by taking the control back.

He looked at the numbers and followed his keys. But, it did seem very much like the wrong approach today. Given the issues throwing the ball, I think you had to make sure Elliott had the ball down there a few times. When it didn't work, your alternative was going to be under further scrutiny -- rightfully so.

How could the Cowboys lose this very winnable game?

Self-inflicted wounds. You cannot win with minus-three in the turnover battle and giving away a Pick 6. You have to overcome so much to get away with that and they didn't come close. Then, to miss multiple field goals made it even worse. They just can't overcome multiple mistakes when the opposition plays a clean game.

How disappointed are you with Dez Bryant, and what do you think happens to him during the off-season?

I am disappointed for sure, but I think we all need to take a deep breath before we run him out of town. Every time you blow out a key part, you have to replace it. Given the place this roster is in, they better think long and hard before they send guys away. I assume he is brought back.

What do you think of some of the mismatches on defense in the DBs?

I think Jimmy Graham is a huge man and small corners in a 1-on-1 situation are going to be attacked. I have to have Bryon Jones on him or there has to be a double team. Otherwise, Russell Wilson will attack all day. It was too easy.

Are there enough questions about Dak Prescott that you might want to get another QB in the off-season?

Everything must be evaluated and in this league, the it starts with the head coach and the Quarterback. I am not done with Prescott, but I do need to figure out what has happened. I also need to examine the issues involved and a realistic plan to either get him right or to get some competition to make sure that QB play does not hold this team back. It has been a very disappointing two months for Prescott and the loss of Tyron Smith has been a significant issue, too. Prescott was fantastic for 24 games and then hit the wall. Did the league figure him out? Did he lose his confidence? Whatever happened, this team must spend the next nine months sorting it out. It is the biggest situation they are dealing with right now -- provided they don't try to address the head coach situation (which I would certainly endorse).

Do you bench Zeke, Dak for the rest of the season?

Heavens, no. That would be ridiculous. They are young and need to be better.
