Source: Cowboys lose sack leader Robert Quinn, who agrees to five-year deal with Bears in free agency

The defensive end recorded 11 1/2 sacks in 14 games during his first and only season in Dallas.

Robert Quinn plans to rush off elsewhere.

The Dallas Cowboys defensive end, whose contract officially expires Wednesday, agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, a source confirmed to The Dallas Morning News. He recorded 111/2 sacks last season during what proved to be his only year in Dallas.

The Chicago contract is worth $30 million in fully guaranteed money, according to a source.

Dallas originally acquired Quinn last March upon trading a 2020 sixth-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins. The 29-year-old formed a speedy presence opposite defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, and his sack total was his most since recording 19 in 2013. According to Pro Football Focus, he and Lawrence paced the Cowboys with 57 and 56 quarterback pressures, respectively.

Cowboys teammates coined Quinn the “Black Cobra” during the offseason for the manner in which he kept his balance while bending the edge toward the quarterback as a pass rusher. Following sacks, Quinn often squatted and slithered forward to imitate a snake.

The production came despite Quinn missing the first two games of the season under NFL suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

On Feb. 27, team owner Jerry Jones expressed interest in re-signing Quinn.

“Well, he’s one of the top people — players and people — that I’ve been associated with,” Jones said at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. “He’s the real deal. I’m real proud to have had the time we’ve had together, number 1. Number 2, he really helped us last year. And so, I’m hopeful that we can do something to keep him.”
