Cowboys QB Dak Prescott calls decision in Breonna Taylor case ‘disgusting’

The lack of charges against the officers has prompted protests in numerous cities.

FRISCO — Dak Prescott said it was disgusting. Amari Cooper said he was not surprised.

The two Cowboys expressed their feelings Thursday about a grand jury decision in Kentucky that refused to charge three police officers in the killing of Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was killed on March 13 when Louisville police officers charged into her apartment while executing a warrant. Taylor’s boyfriend fired a shot at police, resulting in return fire that killed Taylor.

One officer was indicted by a grand jury on three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. But that charge was more about allegedly firing blindly into Taylor’s apartment through a door and window where bullets hit an adjacent apartment, endangering others.

The lack of charges against the officers prompted protests in numerous cities.

“That’s disgusting,” Prescott said on the officers not being charged. “I don’t understand that one at all. There’s a lot of things in this country that I don’t understand that we’re looking at right now. It’s about us to educate ourselves, about us getting registered to vote and going out there and doing that.”

This season, NFL players are allowed to have slogans or names of people affected by racism and police brutality on the back of their helmets.

Cowboys defensive end Dorance Armstrong has Taylor’s name on his helmet.

During training camp, the Cowboys held discussions about racism and other social issues as a team this summer. Cooper said the team has yet to speak together about the latest news regarding Taylor.

“It is definitely something that has been on my heart and crossed my mind,” Cooper said. “To reiterate things I have been seeing [in] the media, I am not surprised by the verdict. It has been happening over and over. My heart goes out to her and her family.”
