“They get so much training, under the gun when you’re a quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and they just grow in that role,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “And I think they’re just prepared. The [Jason] Witten’s of the world, all these guys when they get their opportunities, Michael Irvin has done an amazing job. It also helps make them.”

Don Meredith was the first Cowboys’ quarterback to ascend to a national television stage when he was an analyst for ABC’s Monday Night Football in the 1970s.

“That’s the beauty of Dak to go to this generation of Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks, he’s one of the most impressive young people I’ve met in a long time,” Buck said. “He’s so grounded, been through a lot with the loss of his mom and he’s a helluva athlete. But I think he’s a leader and to be successful as a quarterback in Dallas you better be a leader and somebody that gives your all and if you don’t, that town and that sport will get rid of you.”

“Is he capable of doing it? Of course he’s capable of doing it,” Cowboys radio voice Brad Sham said of Prescott. “I see Dak as a CEO type and probably would have said the same thing about Troy. I think that the Meredith case, it was a unique personality to television at the time combined with the notoriety of what being the quarterback with the Cowboys then. Meredith’s success opened the door.”
