Fear not, loyal Cowboys fans. You were not alone as Randy Gregory agreed, reconsidered, and then accepted a deal with the Denver Broncos over staying home in Dallas on Tuesday.
A soon-to-be Hall of Famer and WWE legend, The Undertaker -- a self-proclaimed Cowboys fan -- was also at a loss for words Wednesday during an interview with The Dallas Morning News on the defensive end’s decision to flip on the hometown team.
“Man. I am a lifelong, as you well know, I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan, but how they let Randy Gregory go – I mean, good night,” The Undertaker said. “They’re just – [the Cowboys] frustrate me so much every year with some of the decisions they make. I don’t know, man. I’m at a loss for words there. They’re like a piece away from what we’ve been waiting on since Troy [Aikman] retired.
“Hopefully, we will plug in somebody there, and continue that resurgence of the defense.”
The hope of finding another top pass rusher this offseason took a few more hits in the hours following the interview Wednesday afternoon as Za’Darius Smith and DeSoto-native Von Miller each came off the free agency board to Baltimore and Buffalo, respectively.
The biggest name of edge rushers left on the market is Jadeveon Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft. But the Cowboys could also pursue the position in the upcoming draft. Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons also spent a great deal of snaps last season coming off the edge.
So, until another quality pass rusher joins the fold in Dallas -- at least for Cowboys fans -- they have a “Deadman” waiting to see what the organization’s next move is, too.
