Cowboys waive five players ahead of Tuesday’s roster deadline

The Cowboys must cut five more players by Aug. 23, and 53-man rosters must be set by Aug. 30.

The Cowboys needed to cut five players by Tuesday afternoon to reach the league-mandated 85-man limit.

They didn’t wait until the last second.

The club released cornerback Kyron Brown, fullback Ryan Nall, tight end Ian Bunting and wide receiver Ty Fryfogle were with injury designations Monday afternoon. If none of those players are claimed, they will go on injured reserve and receive settlements. Defensive lineman Austin Faoliu rounded out the list, bringing the total to five.

The next cut is down to 80 and must take place by Aug. 23, which is three days before the team’s final pre-season game against Seattle.
